I congratulate the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his emergence as Nigeria’s President-elect after a hard-fought electoral battle, and the most gruelling campaign in our recent history.
This keenly contested election and its outcome that redefined Nigeria’s electoral map brings to the fore the maturity of Nigeria’s democracy, and signposts the electoral reforms of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration. The President promised a level playing field for all contestants, he delivered on it!
Despite some hitches during the elections and their aftermath, the elections substantially reflected the people’s will, and this can be seen in the upsets that swept through the political landscape, which saw heavyweights in the ruling party and the opposition party alike losing in their bases.
It is to be expected that not all Nigerians will be satisfied with the outcome, but we should take cognisance of the fact that in a democracy, the minority will have their say, and the majority will have their way – In this election, the choice of the latter is Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Let me salute the tenacity of the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi and his army of youthful supporters, the OBIdients. You literarily propelled a movement, and built momentum across the country – riding on the crest of a party without requisite national structure and altering the electoral map! You made a huge statement,  and as the President-elect stated in his acceptance speech, “we’ve heard you LOUD & CLEAR”!
Whilst those aggrieved still have the avenue to seek redress through the instrumentality of the law, we must first put behind the bitterness of the campaigns, put to rest the harsh and sometimes hate rhetoric, and embrace ourselves as Nigerians – a people united under God, by one nation.
Let us rally around the President-elect and give him the needed support to renew hope and deliver on his campaign promise to bequeath a more prosperous Nigeria.
Asiwaju Tinubu must now also move swiftly to justify the confidence reposed in him by first towing the conciliatory path – extending the olive branch to his opponents and their supporters, and reassuring them he will be fair to all. This, he has started with his acceptance speech, and it is hoped his actions in the coming days will give verve to this.
The antecedents of the President-elect in selecting the best, and galvanising them to assist in translating his vision into reality will go a long way in uniting Nigerians behind his administration.
Nigerians can also expect a proactive President Tinubu whose primary focus will be the welfare of the people, who will work tirelessly to make Nigeria an investment destination and make our economy prosper and work for all.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
