Speaking Thursday evening while playing host to a consortium of coal miners called Kogi Legal Coal Miners, the Minister emphasised that his vision encapsulates shifting attention from fixation on oil to solid minerals. He further stated that resolving areas of friction between host communities and operators, collaborating with sub-national governments to ensure seamless mining operations has taken the centre stage of engagements, in the past few weeks.

” For a long time, we have neglected the solid minerals sector because we had free flow of oil money. But oil money is dwindling. It is no longer sustainable. We need to shift attention to this sector in which God has endowed us, in abundance.

The government and the people of Nigeria have been taken for a ride in this sector. So much is getting out of the country. Some legally, without recourse to necessary royalties that should be paid to the appropriate authorities, across board.”

” The point is the work is huge. If we don’t re-dedicate our energies to it, we won’t achieve anything. Yes, we are going to put in place policy measures. We are going to put in place technology to some measures we are introducing, but there is always a human factor to everything. That’s why I say I need your collaboration, cooperation, ideas, suggestions whenever necessary, so that we can all be on the same page to move our nation forward and put it in the rightful place it should be.” Alake emphasised.

Representative of the coal miners and chairman of Etazuma mining and Industries, Dr. Innocent Ezuma expressed appreciation for the reception accorded the group stating the visit was to felicitate with the Minister on his well-deserved appointment and seek areas of partnership to develop the mining sector. Dr. Etuma assured the Minister the association will bring forth proposals on how to strengthen the coal mining sector and by extension the mining industry.

On the entourage of the Kogi Legal Coal Miners were chairman, Etuzuma mining and Industries, Dr. Innocent Ezuma; MD, Koyla Energy, Alok Gupta; Miremco Chairman, Hassiat Suleiman; MD, Mosra Energy Ltd, Ahmed Ali amongst others.
