HOW SHETTIMA SET BORNO UP FOR AGRIC REVOLUTION

By Yakubu Ahmed-BK

There is no any iota of doubt that Senator Kashim Shettima was an all rounder when it comes to his stellar performance as Governor of Borno state between 2011 and 2019.

He touched almost every sector that was critical to the growth and development of Borno state. It was the seriousness and the top priority he gave to all the sectors that made the people to call him the architect of modern Borno. He governed in an atmosphere of mindless bloodshed and blood spilling for the whole of the eight years he was Governor.

In agriculture, Kashim Shettima, acting on his conviction that for Borno to truly outlive the mindless insurgency that was set to destroy it, the development of agriculture must be prioritized.

He went ahead to purchase critical agricultural equipment required to turn things around and provided the basis of an agricultural revolution that was programmed to support other critical sectors to make Borno’s recovery total.

I was in Borno in February 2019 and I visited the Farm Centre in the state capital where I snapped these pictures of a sight you cannot find elsewhere in the country. Among the equipment he purchased, were a number of high performance combined harvesters – the first of their type in the country.

The revolution in the sector which the current action-packed Governor Professor Babagana Umaru Zulum is successfully pursuing in order to take Borno out of the ashes of the insurgency, was built on the trajectory of the availability of critical farming implements which his predecessor had provided.
