There is trouble in the political camp of former Ogun state governor, Ibikunle Amosun as some of his political allies shun his new year celebration hosted in the state capital.
To celebrate the new year, Amosun hosted a party in his residence in Abeokuta where he invited political allies and other party faithful of the All Progressive Party and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In attendance are Senator Tolu Odebiyi, a former Chief of Staff during Amosun’s governorship, Alhaji Olatunde Awonuga, The former People’s Democratic Party governorship aspirant, Segun Sowunmi, and Rotimi Paseda, Former ADC governorship aspirant, Biyi Otegbeye among others.
Recall that Amosun had publicly endorsed Biyi Otegbeye of ADC against APC’s candidate and incumbent governor of Ogun state, Dapo Abiodun.
Amosun led some other APC members to ADC during the 2023 gubernatorial elections but came a distant third in the election.
Earlier in September 2023, hundreds of loyalists of Amosun, said to be from the 20 local government areas of the state rejoined the mainstream of the All Progressives Congress led by Governor Abiodun.
The returnees were led by the factional chairman of the Amosun-led party, Chief Derin Adebiyi, and were received by Abiodun at the Presidential Lodge.
Our reporter gathered that although Amosun had invited Chief Derin, Chief Gbenga Ademosun and Wole Adesiji who led his faction against the Governor Abiodun-led APC, they failed to show up at the new year gathering.
A source close to the trio told our reporter that the trio were absent from Amosun’s gathering because they had severed ties with him.
“The reason they were not there is because they no longer want to be affiliated with Senator Amosun, it is clear and obvious, since they rejoined the mainstream APC camp, their loyalties are now with Governor Dapo Abiodun and the leadership of the APC in Ogun state,” the source said.
