100 DAYS CONSOLIDATED ACTIVITIES/ACHIEVEMENTS OF DR. YUSUF MAINA BUKAR AS THE DIRECTOR GENERAL/CEO OF NATIONAL AGENCY FOR THE GREAT GREEN WALL (NAGGW)

1. The Director General/CEO introduced the Groasis waterboxx water retention box for irrigation that enhances seedling and tree survival rate by 90% during dry season and reduces the carbon footprints released in the environment.

2. The Director General/CEO introduced the Half Moon technique for largescale restoration of degraded landscapes, which can improve soil retention capacity, improve soil fertility, increases vegetation cover, and reduces soil erosion.

8. The Director General/CEO approved 1st phase deployment of personnel to Kano Office to ensure that the Agency is closer to the 11 frontline states for more effective implementation of its operations.

9. Officials of the Agency Participated at the Global Mechanism of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Technical and Financing Partners, Abidjan Ivory Coast, from on 5th – 6th May, 2022.

10. The Director General/CEO led officials of the Agency to participate at the 15th session of the conference of parties (COP-15) at the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) held from 9th – 20th May 2022 Abidjan, Cote D’ Ivoire.

11. The Agency organized 8th Ordinary session of the Council of Minister`s of the Pan-African Agency of the Great Green Wall (PAGGW) and the Presidential Launching of the National Tree Planting Campaign held from 14th to 16th June 2022 in Abuja.

12. The Nigeria Government has cleared her outstanding contributions to the convention of the Pan Africa Agency of the Great Green Wall (PAGGW) from 2018 to date to the tune of USD654,291.00.

13. The Nigeria Government procured three (3Nos) 4WD SUVs and one (1No) 4WD Truck vehicles for use of the Pan Africa Agency of the Great Green Wall (PAGGW) Secretariat in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

14. The Nigeria Government pledged the sum of USD550,000.00 as voluntary contribution towards the construction of the Pan Africa Agency for the Great Green Wall (PAGGW) Headquarters in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

15. The Agency commenced the process of deploying the NAGGW repository which aims to provide a customized software application and a secure platform that will aid the staff of NAGGW in carrying out their daily activities effectively across all Departments and Units.

16. Officials of the Agency participated at the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) Capacity Training Workshop on establishing a centralized data collection system from 25th – 28th April at NAGGW Headquarters, Abuja.

17. Officials of the Agency participated at the United National Environmental Programme (UNEP) on Capacity Training Workshop on opportunity mapping for improved monitoring of GGW projects in line with international best practice for Ecosystem Base Risk Reduction (ECODRR) held from 30th – 1st June 2022, Abuja, Nigeria.

18. Officials of the Agency participated at the GEF and GGW Focal points on project portfolio Development help on 25th – 28th April, 2022 in Niamay, Niger Republic.

19. Officials of the Agency participated at the fifteenth (XV) Session of World Forestry Congress (WFC) held at Coex convention centre, Seoul, Republic of Korea from 2nd – 6th May, 2022.

20. In line with the Director General/CEO’s reform plans, the Agency is in the process of developing a service charter that will improve service delivery and experience to the Agency’s internal and external stakeholders.

21. The NAGGW Governing Council has approved the establishment of a security services unit and a framework to address the rising insecurity in 11 the frontline states.

22. The NAGGW Governing Council has approved establishment of a Great Green Wall Day, which will be a national exercise for enlightenment and promoting the PAGGW initiative and educate Nigerians on the activities of the NAGGW on the benefits of ‘planting a tree’ to combat desertification and other climate related challenges.
